Easy Thanksgiving Centerpiece Ideas

Thanksgiving is a week away, so by now most of you have made your plans. Some of you are lucky enough to be invited as a guest to someone else’s home, likely leaving a lot of the work off your shoulders. Maybe you are hosting your family and friends this year for the first time, or for the 20th time…either way, here are some Thanksgiving centerpiece ideas you may want to try to add some decorative flair to your table setting:

Add a non-traditional splash of color – I love this one because it takes the color blue (a personal fave), which is not normally thought of for an autumn holiday, but makes it work by adding natural browns with the use of pecans. You can make this your own by finding glass bottles or vases and using any type of nut:

Create the illusion of a table runner using pumpkins and ribbons with little berry sprigs. You could make it your own by collecting leaves from outside and sprinkling them along the sides of the ribbon in a whimsical fashion:

I adore the use of pumpkins in this centerpiece. Placing them at different levels using candleholders, etc. keeps it interesting to the eye. You can get pumpkins in white, orange and yellow to keep it colorful. Another thing I thought that I would add to this centerpiece would be name placards at each place setting using a tiny pumpkin stabbed in the top with a toothpick and a name card taped to it. You can either print up the names using the computer, or if you have lovely handwriting, make it even more personal!

Add a golden glow to your table by using dried kernels of corn in a round vase with a lit candle. Candles make the home feel more cozy and what could be better than feeling even more cozy and intimate around those you love?

Another brilliant use of the pumpkin – I am a fan of pumpkins as decor in the fall! Here it is paired up with a candle and some lovely sprigs. Simply carve a place in the top of the pumpkin that the candle can sit in. Use your own decor such as leaves, corn, sprigs, berries, etc. to make it your own!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Monday Musings

What a weekend! Of course, gone by too quickly like all the rest.

I don’t know where my head has been lately – even though I’ve been trying hard to menu plan and stick to it, somehow we still end up at a restaurant booth somewhere. Friday night, we actually went to TGIF {fitting, right?}

Jake had USCG duty this weekend so it was the boys and me against the world {more like me against them}. We started out our Saturday with a trip to Target where I managed to get Tanner’s birthday gift without him realizing and a few other things for his Lego-themed birthday party coming up. We then went to the local Halloween store to pick out his costume. {Breckin will be recycling Tanner’s Tigger costume from when he was a baby/toddler.} Tanner picked out Spiderman…can’t wait to show you pics of how cute he is in it…and Tigger too!

After Jake got home and settled in, we had our family pumpkin-carving party…

Our “S” Pumpkin

Of course, as usual, I’m not in any of the pictures…being the photographer and all. I always joke with Jake that I’m glad I can make these memories for HIM. Haha.

It was definitely a great way to spend a rainy Saturday with tropical storm Sandy out there.

Sunday I worked, and Jake did too, so we had a babysitter for the boys – which they just loved. We are so thankful for having teenage girls move in next door – more date nights for us!

We capped off the weekend at our family spot {yet another restaurant – so much for that menu plan!} – Los Arcos. I was glad to enjoy a margarita…yum.

Hope y’all had a great weekend! xoxo

Happy Weekend.

Hope y’all are having a better weekend than me…I’m at work…5am shift both days! {Ugh, why????!!}

But anyway…I’m lovin’ this outfit {especially that scarf}…so autumn. Want to rock something similar once I get out of work at 1:30. I think I need to invest in some long, large comfy sweaters to pair with some leggings or skinnies this fall/winter. How about you?

I do have to give a shout out to my girl, Chrissy, who is getting married today! Congrats to you and Doug and I wish you all the happiness in the world! ♥

Thought these were cute to put in the post in honor of the happy couple:

Have a happy weekend. xoxo.

Get Cozy…

It’s not even cold outside yet here in Charleston, SC, but nonetheless, I’ve had cozy fashion on the brain…

You know…scarves, boots, cardigans, sweaters…

Give it another month and I’ll be striving to put together fabulously cozy little outfits such as these…

{I always adore LC’s style…I don’t think she’s gotten it wrong yet…}

And then set me up with one of these babies…

And plop me right down in front of something like this with some good company…

Oh, I’m all warm and fuzzy now just thinking about it! xoxo

Weekend

Wow – this weekend was a whirlwind! I don’t feel like I sat down for even a moment!

On Friday night, we took Tanner to Brick by Brick, a Lego play place. I had won a free Parent’s Night Out pass on Facebook which was worth 3 hours of playtime, pizza and fun! And a 3-hour mini-break for Jake and me, though we still had our Breckin with us. We decided to meet up with some friends, Mark and Katherine for dinner. I am happy to say, that I pulled out the burgundy skinnies look I’ve been eyeing all over the web lately {You can’t see them in the pic, but I’ve got some 6-in high black pumps paired with them}:

Black Blazer / White Tank Top / Burgundy Skinnies

I felt totally “Autumn” with this look…I even tried a little burgundy on my lips {to my husband’s discontent – he hates dark makeup}.

I also read up a little on Grit & Glamour’s post on Whole30. I am so inspired to give it a shot. She is going to start another 30 days in October and I plan on joining in. In spirit {and to get a headstart by slowly cutting out things one by one rather than all at once}, I’ve decided that as of yesterday, I’m cutting out dairy products. {And girl loves her milk, alright?} So I got myself some almond milk at the store to suffice…it’s lactose- and dairy-free and actually much higher in calcium. I’m going to miss yogurt and string cheese, but I think I can survive. I will also be slowly cutting back on red wine, and then on October 1st, will commit to being red wine-free for 30 days {with the exception of the French Quarter Art Walk on October 5th…sorry, just can’t do it. That will be my one cheat evening for red wine. I can’t wait for a fun evening out with two of my favorite girls, Corey and Chrissy.} I encourage those that are interested to go read her post and consider joining in with me!

OK, back to the weekend. On Saturday, we had a little family breakfast at IHOP…and then headed across the parking to Lowe’s to get what we needed to get started on a little project – here’s a little sneak-peak:

Can you guess what we are working on? I can’t wait for the big reveal soon…but there are still a few big things to tackle with this project.

On Sunday, hubby worked on ‘the project’ while I started transforming Breckin’s nursery into a big boy room…{seriously, as exciting as this is, it totally sucks at the same time to say goodbye to your baby’s babyhood}. Here’s the room I said goodbye to {granted these are a little old and some things had already been changed throughout the last couple of years, but you get the idea..}:

I would show you what I’ve done so far, but I’d really love to just have one big fabulous reveal when it’s all complete. However, you’ll be seeing the moodboard later this week which will give you an idea of the direction it’s going in. I still need to paint the walls {and pick out the perfect color!}, put up some pictures/wall art and get some of the furniture in there/moved around. But let me tell you, last night was the first night Breckin slept in his twin-size bed and it was complete agony trying to keep him in it…we went up and down the stairs countless times firmly putting him back in bed {such a mischievous little boy}. However, we were prepared for that.

Hope y’all had a happy weekend – I feel good that we’ve started getting some of the to-do’s/projects started on our list! xoxo

Oh My Gourd!

Do you even know what a gourd is?

I think for the longest time, I didn’t know what these lovely little things were called:

via

There you go. If you didn’t already know, now you do.

You will be seeing these a-plenty at your local grocery store pretty soon, if not already. And they are usually pretty cheap…I tend to get them on sale at three for a dollar. I get a little excited when I start seeing these babies because, to me, it means it’s time for FALL DECORATING! {Woot!}

Yeah, I get a little excited about fall decorating. It’s pretty much my favorite season to decorate for…especially because I also get to keep this particular decor up longer than other seasonal decor {Mid-September thru end of November}. It makes me want to spend extra time on it…once Halloween rolls around, I keep the fall decor, but add some Halloween-y (is that even a word?} things in the mix.

And well, gourds are one of my favorite things to implement in my decor when this season arrives. They are so versatile…the possibilities are endless as to what you can do with them. I love to try and brainstorm new crafts…and I also like to get the boys some of their own little pumpkin gourds to paint as they please.

Here are some gourd-geous {sorry, couldn’t resist} ideas for using these guys in your decor:

Trays are all the rage, so fill one up. I also love how the pumpkin gourds were cut in half and gutted to make candle holders…

Use them outdoors to create a “Welcome” display or just throughout your garden or your front porch to give guests the fall feel before even walking inside your home…

If you’re crafty, fashion a wreath or a garland. Great items to use along with the gourds are pine cones, leaves and twine…

Create a unified design by spray-painting the gourds all one color…this gold was a great choice for fall…

Replace the candles on your pillars…

I’ve always loved the idea of using gourds as a place setting…great for Thanksgiving…

Fill a hurricane…or ten…{I love hurricanes, OK?}

via

OK…and last but not least, these owls are just TOO cute…

Happy Fall Decorating…can’t wait to show you mine soon! xoxo

Fall Trend Watch: Sweater Over Collared

This is not the first time I’ve seen the sweater worn over the collared button-down shirt trend…and I’m certain it won’t be the last. You know all great trends come back in the limelight time and time again. This look is definitely timeless. I love it…it’s a tad preppy, a touch of classy and easy to make your own.

Believe it or not, fall is just around the corner {anyone else thinking, where the f*** did summer go?} So it’s time to evaluate that wardrobe again…get ready to stash away the summer staples until next year {unless you live in Charleston, SC like me, then you have at least through October to rock most of those}…and make way for fall/winter trends. {Don’t be sad. Now you get to swoon over boots and scarves!}

Anyway…here’s some style inspiration for this particular fall trend…enjoy. ♥

Pair a brightly colored sweater with a neutral collared shirt and jazz it up with a fun necklace and cute flats…

via

Or go neutral on neutral…I would even bring my bright color into the collared shirt for a little “pop”…

via

Go solid paired with pattern…and some boots over your skinnies…

via

Have fun and mix two different patterns like stripes and plaid…keep one neutral and one bold, or use complementary colors…{and again, us warmer climate peeps can wear shorts!}…

via

Keep the top neutral and give the outfit a pop of color with some brightly colored skinnies and a loud handbag…

via

Or pair it with a statement skirt and high heels…

via

I’ll be rockin’ this look this fall/winter, how about you?
